Named in honour of the chain of prophets who delivered the divine message across the ages, Masjid al Anbiya in the Bawshar district of Muscat draws worshippers from the surrounding residential quarters for their five daily prayers. The choice of this name reflects a cherished Omani devotion to the lineage of messengers, from Adam through Nuh, Ibrahim, Musa and Isa, peace be upon them all, culminating in the final Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. Oman's Islamic heritage runs remarkably deep, for the sultanate accepted the message during the Prophet's own lifetime after the mission of Amr ibn al As, may God be pleased with him, and the early rulers of the Julanda tribe embraced the faith without battle. Scholars of Nizwa and Rustaq later produced extensive works on jurisprudence, astronomy and Arabic linguistics that shaped the intellectual culture of the peninsula. The architectural tradition of Oman favours domed prayer halls, carved stucco mihrabs, pale plastered walls suited to the fierce coastal sun, and slender minarets often finished with green glazed tiles. Bawshar itself lies between the Hajar Mountains and the Gulf of Oman, blessed with cooler evenings and gentle breezes that carry the call to prayer across gardens of date palms and modern villas. The mosque hosts five daily congregations, a substantial Friday assembly with the khutbah delivered in clear classical Arabic, tarawih prayers throughout Ramadan, and Eid prayers that spill onto shaded courtyards. Qur'an classes for children run on weekday afternoons, and women's sections accommodate mothers bringing small ones to the maghrib gathering. Visitors travelling from Muttrah Corniche or the Grand Mosque a short distance away will find the atmosphere welcoming, shoes are left neatly at the threshold modest attire is expected, and worshippers greet newcomers with the traditional Omani coffee served after Friday prayers whenever the khatib extends his customary invitation to the community. Scholars from Muscat's Institute for Shariah Studies occasionally deliver guest khutbahs here, enriching the weekly sermon with insights drawn from the classical Omani juridical and grammatical heritage preserved in venerable manuscripts held carefully within the sultanate's principal teaching institutions today.
