О месте

Carrying the noble name al Furqan, meaning the criterion that distinguishes truth from falsehood, this Omani masjid in the Bawshar district of Muscat offers the residents of the capital governorate a quiet place of daily prayer under one of the most cherished titles of the Holy Qur'an. Oman, whose Islamic heritage reaches back to the very lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, accepted the faith when the Messenger sent his letter to the brothers Jayfar and Abd, sons of al Julanda. They embraced Islam immediately, and Omani families have carried the religion with quiet devotion ever since.

Al Furqan, the twenty fifth surah of the Qur'an, opens with the verse that blesses Almighty God who sent down the criterion to His servant so that he might be a warner to the worlds. The surah contrasts the dignity of those who walk upon the earth in humility with the arrogance of those who refuse guidance, and it describes the blessed servants of the Most Merciful who pass the night prostrating before their Lord and rise at dawn with hearts softened by fear and hope. Naming a masjid after such a surah calls each arriving worshipper to choose the path of the clear criterion amid every challenge.

Oman produced generations of remarkable scholars and navigators. Ahmad ibn Majid of the fifteenth century, whose sailing manuals are still studied by maritime historians, was born in Oman and taught sailors how to cross the Indian Ocean with precision. Omani dhows carried the faith to Zanzibar, Mombasa, and the far shores of the Indian subcontinent, establishing mosques wherever they found welcome.

Architecturally the building reflects the modern Omani style. Pale creamy stonework, carved merlons along the parapet, a slender minaret tipped with a brass crescent, a dignified central dome above the mihrab, and tall arched windows admit the bright coastal sunlight into the interior. Patterned Persian carpets stretch across the prayer hall, chandeliers hang from the painted dome, and the mihrab niche is finished with carved gypsum work and green calligraphic panels citing verses of the Qur'an. A women's gallery welcomes mothers and daughters with its own entrance.

Daily prayer timings for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at al Furqan Mosque appear on this page alongside the Bawshar address, a clear map pin, and considerate notes for visitors approaching from the Muttrah corniche, the Grand Mosque of Sultan Qaboos, or the Seeb international airport. Ramadan evenings bring simple iftars of dates, qahwa, halwa, and slow cooked shuwa wrapped in banana leaves and palm fronds. Travellers crossing between the Wahiba sands and the beaches of Qurm are welcomed with the quiet grace of Omani hospitality, invited to pray inside the cool interior, and gently encouraged to whisper a sincere supplication for steadfastness on the clear criterion of their Merciful Lord.
