Acerca de

In the Bawshar wilayat of the Muscat governorate of the Sultanate of Oman, the Abdullah Ibn Abi Rawaha Mosque bears the name of one of the most beloved Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. Abdullah ibn Rawaha, may God be pleased with him, was among the Ansar of Madinah, a poet of graceful verse who defended the Messenger with his tongue as others defended him with their swords, and a commander who fell as a martyr at the battle of Mu'tah in Jordan during an early engagement with Byzantine forces. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, honoured him repeatedly in life and in death, receiving news of his martyrdom through divine revelation and praying for him with tears. Naming mosques after such noble Companions keeps their memory alive and inspires worshippers to emulate their sacrificing devotion. Bawshar itself forms part of the modern ring of suburbs surrounding Muscat, a wilayat encompassing residential neighbourhoods, the Bawshar sand dunes, and several important government and sporting facilities. Oman's Islamic heritage is distinguished by the country's peaceful acceptance of Islam during the lifetime of the Prophet, making it one of the very earliest regions beyond Arabia to embrace the faith. The sultanate's mosques reflect this long unbroken tradition in their quiet dignity and careful maintenance under the Ministry of Endowments. Architecturally the Abdullah Ibn Abi Rawaha Mosque follows the characteristic Omani idiom, cream coloured stone facade, a central dome of typically Omani profile, a single minaret crowned with a crescent, and interior finishes combining carved plaster in the sarooj tradition with simple modern materials. The five daily prayers draw attentive worshippers, Jumu'ah fills the hall, and the blessed month of Ramadan sees long nights of taraweeh and tahajjud. The two Eid mornings bring joyful congregations followed by the customary Omani exchange of greetings and the visits to family homes that define the festive day. Omani fathers often bring their young sons here for the first time specifically so they may hear the story of the beloved poet companion whose name graces this prayer house.
