关于
Located near the site of the old Muscat airport from which the mosque takes its name, Masjid al Matar al Qadim preserves a geographical memory within its very designation, recording the location of the capital's original air terminal before the modern airport was built nearer to Seeb on the coastal highway. Oman's aviation history is relatively recent compared to its maritime heritage, and the modest neighbourhoods that grew up around the first airfield retain the nostalgic labels of streets, mosques and shops that mark the pre oil era. The Bawshar district itself spreads inland from the coast toward the Hajar mountain foothills, preserving old villages alongside villas and schools. Oman's Islamic heritage is distinctive for the voluntary acceptance of the faith while the Prophet Muhammad was yet among the living, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, the benevolent leadership of the Julanda family, and the scholarship nurtured in Nizwa and Rustaq. Figures such as Ibn Baraka of Behla, Abu Said al Kudami and the later ulama of jabal al Akhdar (God's mercy be upon him) upon them, produced works on jurisprudence, astronomy and Arabic grammar that shaped the peninsula's intellectual life. The regional architectural tradition favours rendered stone walls in pale ochres, carved wooden doors, square minarets with two tiers of balconies, green glazed domes over the qibla chamber, and shaded arcades planted with date palms. The daily five prayers bring together neighbours from the surrounding villas and apartment blocks, Friday prayers draw a full congregation with the khutbah delivered in careful classical Arabic, tarawih through Ramadan fills the carpeted hall with families walking from their homes in the cool evening air, and On Eid morning the air is scented with rosewater and the quiet exchange of sweets and Omani halwa. Qur'anic instruction runs across weekdays. Travellers journeying from the Grand Mosque of Muscat toward the Royal Opera House or onward into the Hajar mountains will discover in this unassuming neighbourhood jami a quietly characteristic example of Omani devotional life. The mosque's modest library preserves copies of classical Omani texts including commentaries by Nur al din al Salimi (God's mercy be upon him) upon him, whose nineteenth century scholarship remains fundamental reading for every student of the sultanate's rich juristic heritage today.
