About

Close to the small town of Curup in the highland province of Bengkulu on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, Masjid Jik Ibadurrahman Simpangkota Beringin serves a community that has grown around a historic banyan tree marking the crossroads of several mountain roads. Bengkulu province stretches along the south western coast of Sumatra, a long strip of lush rainforest, tea plantations, and volcanic peaks, including Bukit Kaba whose crater lakes glow turquoise above the town. Curup itself sits at roughly six hundred metres elevation and enjoys a cool, damp climate throughout the year. Sumatra holds a special place in the Islamic history of Southeast Asia. The Samudera Pasai sultanate, founded in the thirteenth century on the island's northern tip, was the earliest independent Muslim state in the region, and scholars such as Hamzah Fansuri and Abdur Rauf al Singkili shaped a Malay Islamic literary tradition whose echoes still appear in the khutbahs preached in village mosques today. Every new masjid in Bengkulu, including this one at Simpangkota Beringin, belongs to that unbroken chain of faithful gatherings. The name Ibadurrahman, meaning Servants of the Most Merciful, is drawn from the twenty fifth chapter of the Qur'an, which describes the beloved believers who walk humbly on the earth, pray through the night, and ask their Lord to make them leaders of the God fearing. The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), especially Abu Bakr and Umar (may God be pleased with them), were recognised by later generations as living examples of these noble qualities, and a mosque bearing this name invites every worshipper to pursue the same path. Architecture in the Bengkulu highlands favours tiered wooden roofs, open verandas, louvred windows, and tiled floors that stay cool even during the rainy afternoons. Inside, a modest mihrab points toward the Ka'bah, ceiling fans spin above patterned carpets, and a painted wooden minbar awaits the Friday khutbah. On this page, reliable daily prayer times for Masjid Jik Ibadurrahman at Simpangkota Beringin in Curup, along with its address, a map, and community notes, are provided for local villagers, mountain travellers, and tourists visiting the Kaba volcano or the tea plantations of the Rejang highlands. After Maghrib, worshippers often share steamed cassava and glasses of local robusta coffee prepared by neighbours across the shaded courtyard.
