Tentang

Anchoring the close knit Bangladeshi Muslim community of Darlaston in the West Midlands of England, Darus Salam Masjid and Bangladeshi Islamic Centre offers a full programme of spiritual, educational, and social services to families whose roots reach across the Bay of Bengal to the green fields of Sylhet, Chittagong, and Dhaka. Darlaston, once a busy industrial town famed for its nuts and bolts industry, became home to Bangladeshi settlers in the 1960s and 1970s, many of whom came first to work in local foundries and textile mills before bringing their families and establishing enduring community institutions. The name Darus Salam, the Abode of Peace, carries Qur'anic resonance and evokes the promise of Paradise reserved for those who are patient and sincere.
Bangladeshi Islamic tradition draws on a thousand years of scholarship and spirituality, shaped by wandering teachers, poets, and jurists who crossed the Bay of Bengal from Arabia, Yemen, and Persia to plant the Qur'anic message in the rich river lands. The mosque in Darlaston carries that heritage into the English Midlands, running daily congregational prayers, weekend Qur'an classes for children in Bengali and English, evening tajwid sessions, adult circles on prophetic biography, and pastoral support for marriages, bereavements, and new arrivals. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, taught that the best of you are those who are best to their families, and the centre treats that teaching as a pillar of its community work.
The converted building has been adapted with careful attention to need. A bright main prayer hall accommodates several hundred worshippers on patterned carpets, a separate floor offers a dignified women's section, and ground floor rooms host wedding gatherings, janazah arrangements, and interfaith visits from schools and churches across the borough of Walsall. Ramadan fills the whole building with warm curry, sweet firni, and the gentle recitation of the Qur'an across long English evenings. Jumu'ah sermons are delivered in Bengali and English, with occasional Arabic quotations drawn directly from the Qur'an and prophetic hadith. Accurate daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at Darus Salam Masjid appear on this page, published freely for every worshipper in Darlaston and the wider Black Country.
