Kuhusu

Inside the busy central Dhaka neighbourhood of Paltan, the women's prayer hall of the Islami Bank Hospital, known locally as a panjegana, offers a calm, dignified refuge for female patients, staff, and visitors to observe their five daily prayers. The Islami Bank Hospital itself is operated as a major charitable health facility serving residents across the Bangladeshi capital and beyond. The word panjegana is drawn from Persian and entered Bengali Muslim vocabulary through the long cultural influence of the Mughal court, meaning a place where the five prayers are performed but not the Jumu'ah congregation. Such spaces occupy an honoured rung in the network of Muslim prayer places that covers the city of Dhaka.
Women have prayed in mosques throughout Islamic history. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, said do not prevent the maidservants of God from the mosques of God, and his own Mosque in Madinah al Munawwarah was designed to accommodate women for the five prayers, for Jumu'ah, and for Eid. The wives and daughters of the Prophet (may God be pleased with them), along with countless companions such as Umm Salamah, Aishah, and Asma bint Abi Bakr, attended the masjid, studied hadith, and taught other women. This women's prayer space at the hospital extends that honoured tradition into the modern urban hospital, where female patients, nurses, doctors, and visitors can pause amid the demands of caregiving.
The design is practical rather than ornamental. A clean carpeted room with a marked qiblah direction, wudu facilities adjusted for women, a modest collection of prayer garments and hijab loans, a small bookshelf of Qur'ans with Bengali translation, and good lighting for the reading of supplications are the essential elements. Many women pause here during the long hours of caring for sick relatives, finding in prayer a balm for anxiety and grief, remembering that God is the one who truly heals. On this page you will find accurate daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha for the hospital prayer hall, serving every woman who visits or works at the hospital in Paltan and the surrounding quarters of the capital city.
