Kuhusu

Welcoming the canal city residents of Port Said on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, Al Siddiq Mosque, known also as Mosque Al Siddiq Port Said, honours the first rightly guided caliph, Abu Bakr al Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, the closest companion of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, whose unwavering loyalty during the hijra earned him the eternal title al Siddiq, the utterly truthful one. Port Said was founded in 1859 during the engineering of the Suez Canal under the direction of Ferdinand de Lesseps, and the city developed into a cosmopolitan port with Greek, Italian, Maltese, Levantine, and Egyptian communities trading goods from across the eastern Mediterranean beneath distinctive wooden balconied residences that still grace the city centre. Today Port Said remains a proud maritime gateway at the entrance to the canal, celebrated for its duty free shopping zone and its traditional fisherman's boats lining the promenade. Architecturally Al Siddiq Mosque reflects modern Egyptian civic design with Ottoman echoes, featuring a dome tiled in soft blue, twin slender minarets, a courtyard paved in cream limestone, and arcaded porticoes shading the main entrance from the Mediterranean sun. Inside, the mihrab is clad with polished local marble, and calligraphic panels proclaim the virtues of truthfulness and loyalty. Daily prayers bring dockworkers, canal pilots, fishermen, market traders, and students together in quiet devotion, with the dawn Fajr drawing the most devoted elders. The Friday khutbah, delivered in Egyptian Arabic, often addresses honesty in commerce, patience in trial, and the mercy of God upon those who remember Him. Ramadan is luminous, with iftar tables laden with ful, molokhia, kunafa, and cold karkadeh stretching along the courtyard walls. The two Eids fill the city square outside. Travellers can combine their stop with the Port Said Military Museum, the elegant Suez Canal Authority building, the National Museum of Port Said, and the ferry crossing to Port Fuad within walking distance. Weekly tafsir circles taught by a qualified imam draw attendees from across the canal city, and the mosque library stocks works on the history of Port Said and the Suez Canal alongside classical Egyptian religious literature. Women's halaqah gatherings meet in a side hall for lessons on household fiqh and the biographies of the companions, may God be pleased with them. Charitable distributions during Ramadan provide iftar packages to dockworkers, fishermen, and needy families. The imam visits the sick at the Port Said general hospital weekly, continuing a gentle pastoral tradition cherished by this proud Mediterranean community.
