Kuhusu

Continuing a long tradition of worship in the surrounding area, جامع الأمير سلطان بن عبدالعزيز آل سعود welcomes worshippers throughout the day.. Prince Sultan, may God have mercy on him, was long associated with the ministry of defence and with charitable endowments across the kingdom, and masajid bearing his name continue the tradition of royal patronage that has shaped Saudi civic architecture for generations. Riyadh, the seat of the Al Saud family since Imam Turki bin Abdullah recaptured the town in the nineteenth century, is dense with places of worship that punctuate its residential grids and commercial boulevards. The jamaa's design draws on the grand contemporary Saudi idiom, vast carpeted prayer halls capable of accommodating several thousand worshippers, soaring central domes clad in pale stone, minarets whose slender climb stands visible across surrounding blocks, and ornamental arcades that shade the entrances from the punishing summer sun. Inside, muqarnas vaulting adorns the mihrab, thuluth calligraphy encircles the dome interior with Qur'anic verses, and richly figured Persian carpets cushion the worshippers' knees. Five daily prayers proceed according to the Umm al Qura schedule, and Jumu'ah draws devoted congregations whose cars fill the adjoining lots long before the khateeb ascends the mimbar. Ramadan transforms the jamaa into a glowing beacon, tarawih prayers led by hafiz reciters whose voices carry through the sound system, the final ten nights consecrated to qiyam al layl that often extends past midnight. Free iftars are distributed in the courtyard with dates, yoghurt, saleeg, and Arabian coffee. Eid prayers attract large crowds followed by families greeting one another and distributing sweets to children. Visitors exploring the capital can reach the jamaa by taxi or the new Riyadh Metro, and nearby landmarks include the Kingdom Centre observation deck, Masmak Fortress, and the charming alleys of Old Diriyah along Wadi Hanifah just beyond the city's western edge. The masjid continues to flourish as an anchor of communal devotion, its halls filling five times daily with worshippers of every age and background who gather beneath its dome to renew their covenant with the Creator and to strengthen the bonds that make Riyadh a genuinely living Islamic capital.
