Perched on the eastern slopes of Mount Ungaran at roughly 319 metres above sea level, Masjid Al Hikmah serves the growing town of Ungaran, the administrative capital of Semarang Regency in Central Java. The town lies within the volcanic highlands that feed the Rawa Pening basin, a region celebrated for fertile soils, clove and coffee gardens, and terraced rice paddies that climb the ridges above the road to Semarang City. Over the past two decades Ungaran has doubled in size as commuters and new industries spread south from Semarang, yet the older kampungs still hold tightly to traditions of neighbourhood prayer, weekly tahlil gatherings, and evening Qur'anic study.
The name Al Hikmah, meaning Wisdom, is drawn from one of the most beloved words in the Qur'an, used to describe the guidance granted to the prophets, including Dawud, Luqman, and the final Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). Wisdom in the Islamic tradition is not only knowledge but knowledge joined with humility and correct action, and the Companions (may God be pleased with them) understood it as a light that God places in the hearts of those who sincerely seek Him. A mosque bearing this name gently asks every person who enters to seek that same light.
The building reflects the practical architecture typical of Central Javanese masjids. A tiered roof in the Joglo tradition shelters a bright prayer hall with louvred windows and tiled floors, while a modest minaret carries the adhan across tea plantations and orchards. Women pray on a raised platform at the rear, separated by carved wooden screens, and on Fridays the khutbah is delivered in a warm blend of Bahasa Indonesia and Javanese that holds the attention of young professionals and elderly farmers alike.
On this dedicated page you can consult the daily prayer times for Masjid Al Hikmah in Ungaran, along with its address, a location map, and notes that assist visiting family members, travellers on the Semarang Solo corridor, and local residents attending prayer here regularly. The cool mountain climate and the scent of clove trees after rain make the short walk to the mosque a pleasure in every season, and many worshippers follow the habit of staying for a few minutes after Maghrib to recite additional dhikr before heading home. Newcomers to the town, students at the nearby campuses, and pilgrims visiting the historic Gedong Songo temples on the slopes of Mount Ungaran all find in this masjid a simple, honest welcome.
